Shooting Fog

I don’t often get to shoot fog, but I got a chance last March. For those of you new to shooting fog:

  • increase your exposure around 1 stop since your meter will try to drop the brightness of the fog to a middle gray
  • and increase your contrast to make near objects pop more.

Here is a comparison between default exposure and using these tweaks:

For those of you interested, here is a comparison between:

  1. Just the exposure change and
  2. With both exposure change and contrast changes.

(The difference is more prominent without WordPress’s slideshow dark fade feature which I would love to turn off.)

Good luck and go shoot some fog!

FYI These variations were done using Fuji’s in-camera RAW post processing.
